Fish tank filter, do I change water?

I have a fish tank with a filter, do I change the water at all? I cant find anything about this. If I am supposed to, how often?

Also, how often do I need to change the filter cartridge?

Thank youFish tank filter, do I change water?Yes you do need to do weekly partial water changes, usually only about 20% with dechlorinated with a gravel vacuum to get the muck off the substrate.

You shouldn't ever have to change filter cartridges unless the media is falling a part. Its in that media that the good bacteria lives that keeps your water parameters stable after it's gone through the nitrogen cycle. Some filter systems have several stages, or duplicate cartridges, so one can be removed and replaced while the other is left to help the new one colonise, this is called cloning. The filter cartridge can have debris rinsed off in old tank water at each partial water change - never ever under the tap!Fish tank filter, do I change water?yes, you should change SOME of the water. my hubby used to do this once a week and it was about 1/4 of the water in the tank.

i would refer to the paperwork for the type of filter you have for information on how often to change it.

:)Fish tank filter, do I change water?at least change the water once every 3 weeks, 25% water change. u can get a siphon which can be found at walmart, its a gravel cleaner and get water out to.Fish tank filter, do I change water?Yes about once a week from 10-20% of water.. and the Cartridge if HOB about every 30 days ..if u can cut it open from the top wash the cartridge off with tank water.. and change carbons.. that will be the best not lost any good becteria

Good luck!Fish tank filter, do I change water? You only change the water if the filter is to dirty to pick up anything. you should change the filter every month and that wil keep you fish from dieing.
