It has a large handle that fits over the bottom of the cylinder and usually I have to beat on it with a hammer to get it started, it always seals itself very very good because of the rubber gasket on top. Make sure you don't lose the rubber gasket when you finally get it apart, it's about as big around as a piece of spaghetti and if you lose it before you know it was even there, you're in big trouble because it won't seal back and will leak very bad. Be sure you cut off the water, then there should be a button or some method of letting the pressure off the filter unit, then open it. There will be several different types of filters available to choose from depending on how much filtering your water needs. If you're unsure you can ask them at Lowe's or take the old one back with you and purchase one that's similar. Replace the filter, make sure the gasket is on, screw it back on and open the water again. Be sure to check for any leaks. Good Luck!
