I recently, stupidly did a water change and filter change at the same time. My question is, will a new carbon filter Help to establish normal PH sooner, and how long will it take. ThanksCarbon filter and ph in aquarium?about a week to 2 weeks tops. If you have another filter in the house you can take the filter and drain all the water from the carbon filter into a cup then poor the water into the filter to help bacteria grow in it.Carbon filter and ph in aquarium? If you changed all the filter media as well as the filter itself then ph will be the least of your worries, ammonia and nitrites are the problems you will have now as basically you have an uncycled tank.
You need to do two things straight away;- get a liquid water test kit that tests for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates, not the paper strip ones as they are not accurate enough, and go to a decent fish website, like thinkfish or fishforums to understand exactly what you need to do.
The problem will not be sorted in just two weeks.Carbon filter and ph in aquarium? Some carbon can raise the pH in a tank, but good quality activated carbon has little effect on pH.
If your pH is too low (acid), adding buffers to the water can raise the pH. If the pH is too high, buffers are not likely to help much.Carbon filter and ph in aquarium?2 weeks.
