My goldfish tank has been running for about 4 weeks now, and I think it might be time to change the filter because the water is getting a little bit cloudy.
I was wondering how you change the filter? I have new filter pads to put in, but I know that the filter pad I have now has good bacteria that help the tank stay healthy. I don't want to lose that.
So, how do I properly change the pad without having to re-cycle the tank? How to do a filter change? This is a problem, but understand. The good bacteria grows on everything. The Rocks, the glass the tubes, everything.
That being said, if you were doing bio filtration, you water would be clear. So the filter floss and the zeolite and carbon are doing all the work. Which is fine for a small bowl.
If it is a filter cartridge cut some of the old floss and use a rubberband to hold it onto the new filter.
Or you could just slit the filter open, dump out the stuff inside, put in new carbon or zeolite from another cart and you are good to go.How to do a filter change?Since bacteria grows everywhere in your tank, not just in your filter, there will be enough bacteria to keep the fish happy. The bacteria lost from your replaced cartridge will grow back in a matter of hours =]
