Edit: Please whatever you do, don't listen to what stripes has said. By rinsing out the gravel with chlorinated water you will be killing off any beneficial bacteria your tank will have since you don't have a filter. And do not use rain water, it would be too much of a risk.
You can take water straight from the tap, which is recommended because it will be full of oxygen, and use water close to the temp of the tank. Just letting the water sit without aeration will cause the oxygen levels in the water to drop and it will go stale. Use a good dechlorinator to get rid of chlorine and chloramines. If you choose to age your water to remove chlorine, sitting it in the sun won't do much of anything, rather let it sit for 24hrs with an airstone, the chlorine will dissolve over that period of time. Unfortunately if your city uses chloramines it cannot be removed in the same process, so I always suggest to use dechlorinators if they do.
The pH of the tank should not change drastically from what your tap water is if you are keeping up on regular water changes and are not altering it with any chemicals.
For my smaller betta tank I use a turkey baster to suck the poop off the bottom of the tank, it works like a charm. It also allows you to control the amount of water you are removing. If you choose to use a small gravel vac instead and end up taking out more water than you want, let the water you empty into a bucket settle for about 10 min then scoop out some of the water from the surface. How often do you need to change a goldfish water if you don't have a filter?it depends on the size of the tank. if you've got a small bowl or tank then about 20-30% every 2 days is OK. the main thing is this that you get the some clean water out from the top of the tank and then put the fish into that. that way your fish is in the water that it's come from and wont get a shock from different temperature or alkalinity (acid). then take out the next bit of the water theat's quite clean and you want to keep. finally the dirtiest water is at the bottom. tip that out and rinse any gravel that may be holding poo or old food. replace the old water and fish back into the tank and slowly (over a couple of hours) add new water as it may have a different temperature. if you remember, it's best to get your replacement water for the tank a couple of days in advance and leave it in a bucket in the sun. the sun takes out any of the chlorine/fluorine that may be in it from the purification process. rian water may need to be filtered if it's run off the roof, but it's the most neutral in acid. 50% change in one go is a bit too much. but goldfish are hardy fish. you can also add oxygen to the water by blowing through a straw and leaving the glass lid off the tank for a while
good luckHow often do you need to change a goldfish water if you don't have a filter?U did not tell th number of fish, your tank is too small for GF you can only keep 1 small fish and will need to do at least 5% water change daily. Take in mind that adding Oxygen to the water will not reduce waste but it will provide the bad bacteria also with supply of Oxygen. How often do you need to change a goldfish water if you don't have a filter?1) You need a filter.
2) If you don't have a filter, change the whole water every day.
3) You need a bigger tank, goldfish grow to over 1 foot long, and even when they are small they need swimming room. In that tank even with daily changes your goldfish will, at best, live for a few months.
4) Do more research on the internet... start googling %26quot;how to care for goldfish%26quot; and stuff like that, it's easy, you don't have an excuse not to!
5) What stripes said was ridiculous, almost all of it was wrong and absolutely stupid.... rain water is acidic, it's minerals that rain water lacks, in 99% of the places where people live, your tap water is more alkaline than your rain water. Your tap water gets treated to remove pollutants. Your rain water doesn't, and we all know how polluted the air is..
... and if you %26quot;blow through a straw%26quot; into the water do you know what you're blowing into it? Carbon dioxide! That's what you blow out because you are a human and you exhale carbon dioxide! Fish don't breathe carbon dioxide, they breathe oxygen like you and me...
.... and the sun won't get rid of chlorine and %26quot;fluorine%26quot;, they don't add fluoride to the water anymore if that's what they meant. No matter where you put the water, chlorine will evaporate in about a day. But these days they add something else to the water called CHLORAMINE and chloramine does not evaporate and the sun doesn't take it away... you NEED dechlorinator.
I'm stupified by the idiocy of this person... they probably kill every fish they keep within a month... did they just make all this up? Where did they get that from?!?!?! (I am talking about stripes, not anyone else)How often do you need to change a goldfish water if you don't have a filter?Frequently. I would perform a drastic daily change. What size tank?
Without a filter their wastes build up, and will poison them if left too long. I urge you to purchase a filter as soon as possible.
~A 1-2 gallon tank is not suitable for any fish, least of all goldfish. Please upgrade to a minimum of 20 gallons with double the filtration as soon as possible. How often do you need to change a goldfish water if you don't have a filter?I have a goldfish too and no filter.
You have to change the water every other day. (every 2 or 3 days)
Hope I helped.
Good Luck! :]
