How do i get my 29 gallon tank water to be clear?????

I never used to have a problem with my tank water being dirty, but its GREEN now. i seriously cant see the back of the tank, and i have done a 50 percent water change to clear it up and its not working. there is no debris, i got it all out, and i just replaced the filter, a whisper bio-bag that says it keeps water %26quot;crystal clear%26quot;. should i replace nearly all the water and start from scratch with my fish in a bucket? or treat the water somehow? help! How do i get my 29 gallon tank water to be clear?????Green water is suspended algae. The cause is excessive light and nutrients. Ensure the tank isn't receiving sunlight and/or that you are not keeping your tank lights on more than 4-6 hours per day. Replacing the filter is a very, very bad idea. You've just removed much of the healthy bacteria and your tank will now need to go through a %26quot;mini%26quot; cycle.

Reduce light, and keep nitrates below 20ppm. To rid the tank of algae, eliminate light completely for a week. Use a black garbage bag if necessary, but do make sure you don't block air from the tank. How do i get my 29 gallon tank water to be clear?????your water is green from algae.

algae grows because you have too much light reaching your tank (either natural or artificial light) and because there is too many phosphates and nitrates in your water.

in order to get rid of the algae you need to resist further water changes and do what is called a %26quot;black out%26quot;. get a towel or thick blanket that will cover your tank. Unplug the light, and cover the tank, if the tank gets direct sunlight from a nearby window pull the shade down during the day.

every three days feed your fish, feeding them less reduces the nitrates, reducing the food for the algae to eat on. If you have common aquarium fish that you bought at petsmart/co they will be perfectly fine eating once every three days. Do not give them extra food because they haven't eaten,..this undoes the once every three day feedings.

algae drops do not work! the only way to control algae is by making sure that your tank only gets 8-10 hours of light a day--including natural sunlight that might strike it.

*edit* do this blackout until the water is clear again! How do i get my 29 gallon tank water to be clear?????You are having what is commonly known in the fish hobbyist world as Algae Bloom.

There are several safe and effective treatments out there in all the pet stores that can deal with this.

The more you change your water, the more cloudy it gets, that's a big sign that you have algae bloom. How do i get my 29 gallon tank water to be clear?????change all the water and start from scratch and buy you a couple of pycostamus, they eat algae. How do i get my 29 gallon tank water to be clear?????Changing all the water will shock the fish.

Try this.

1. One cut back on the amount of food you give your fish.

2. Not only change the water, but also clean the substrate (gravel). More then likely the rotting excess food in the gravel is contributing to the outbreak.

3. Once a month clean your filter and replace the carbon pads (if you use them)

4. Cut back the light taht you add to the tank.

5. adding some jave fern will reduce the amount of nutrients in the tank the plants will compete and beat out the algea for the excess nutrients in the water.

Good Luck
