How do you keep the water clean?

My family just got guppies. We didn't have an aquarium so they are in a clear vase. We are thinking about getting an aquarium that keeps it's water clean. Is there another way to keep it clean besides getting a filter. Also it can't be like switching the water because it could shock the guppies system from the sudden water change. PLEASE HELP!How do you keep the water clean? You need a proper filtered tank. The only way to keep the water from getting to toxic levels in an unfiltered environment is large water changes several times a week, and you are right that will cause the fish to go into a shock.

Research proper fish care, a vase is NOT a proper environment for fish. Your guppies need a filtered, heated tank that has completed the nitrogen cycle, the nitrogen cycle takes 2-6 weeks to complete before its safe for fish.

It's unlikely your Guppies will last long and stay healthy in that vase, fancy Guppies these days are VERY fragile fish. I would personally recommend returning the lot and starting how you're meant to, tank first fish later! And find a better aquatics store that don't sell fish in vases!

edit: James find me one valid website that says bacteria can establish themselves fully in an aquarium in under a week. It just can't happen. A tank isn't really fully mature until it's over 6 months old! And spring water can vary vastly in terms of water chemistry readings especially things like pH, tap water is just find as long as it has dechlorinator in it!How do you keep the water clean?Use Oysters they fillter the water!!How do you keep the water clean?there is many ways to keep a filter clean u can get a magnet that is special for that. u put one inside and another outside and u slide it on the class and it picks up everything it goes on. there is also another way, u can buy a snail at the pet store and it will crawl around eating all the filth. they are very good helpers because you don't need to worry about feeding them. How do you keep the water clean?ok it doesnt take 2-6 weeks for wateva she said to set up. it takes less than 1 week. a guppie can survive in a vase if it has some kind of air like bubbles. itl take alot of clams or shellfish to keep the water clean but they help, try adding small plants, and a ghost shrimp, but u still can change about 1/3 of the water a week no more than that, u dont need to do a major water change for it to be clean, us spring water not drinking water SPRING! a vase can be a good home for small fish if done properly p.s they dont need a heated vase as long as it doesnt get cold in ur house around 74 inside ur house is ok or more.
