How do I slow down water from evaporating in my fist tank?

I am losing approx 1/2-3/4 gallon a week of water through evaporation, which is making the tank loud with water splashes from the filter. It is also causing me to change more water than I would like on a weekly basis. I have a 10 gallon and I want to replace a gallon a week. How do I slow down water from evaporating in my fist tank?Just to keep nitrates down, it might be better to replace 2 or 3 gallons a week.

But just putting a tight lid on the tank prevents evaporation. If you put, say, a glass top that actually covers the entire tank, then you won't lose as much (if any) water. Just make sure to leave about a half inch so there's some oxygen to interact with your water, or else your fish might suffer. How do I slow down water from evaporating in my fist tank?Add a humidifier to the room. Evaporation happens because the air in the room is dry and will continue until there is some equilibrium. If you add another source of humidity, less evaporation will happen. How do I slow down water from evaporating in my fist tank?Keep the light off. Heat evaporates the water. How do I slow down water from evaporating in my fist tank?Cutting the hours that the light is on will help alot.

putting a lid on it will help, but it will also trap heat, and can possible stress the fish out from the constant heat change between when the lights are off and on.

they do sell a top of kit, to replace the evaporating water its basically a sensor, bucket of water and pump..... I got one on my 55 i was looking a couple gallons a week. How do I slow down water from evaporating in my fist tank?Make sure the cover of the tank is on correctly. Also, if lowering the water temperature won't be an issue to your fish, then do that a little to slow down the evaporation rate.
