How many water changes do i need?

i have a oscar in a 30 gallon tank. when he gets bigger like 8 inches long, how often and how much do i do a water change? i have 2 filters adding up to 300 gph filtered. How many water changes do i need?First of all.. 30gal is too small for an oscar. You should move him to a larger tank, or give him away if you cannot keep him.

Also oscars are heavy tank polluters. I would change anywhere between 25-50% of the water weekly because of the sized tank you have, waste concentrations will build up much quicker in a 30 gallon then in a larger tank. Make sure that you vacuum the gravel as well. It all depends how often you feed it, the more you feed the bigger the mess in the tank. How many water changes do i need?i would change the water... maybe every two weeks?

buy a little ph test kit and see when the ph level starts to go up, and then change the water

don't change it too often, then all your good bacteria will die

i have a green sevrum that's about 9-10 inch. and i change the water every 2 weeks

hope this helps!

How many water changes do i need? I would change once a month if that. I have 4 gold fish, in a 40 gallon, also 2 red ear sliders, But I only have to change some water once a month due to having 6 cleaner type fish. Its not a good idea to do full water changes ever. if its set up right you should only have to perform minor maint. How many water changes do i need?I agree with albus.. It really depends on your filtration and how the water tests. Just always keep some test strips on hand. As the fish gets bigger you may have to do more fruquent water changes than with the 30 gal. When you upgrade your tank, look into getting an overflow and sump filter system. It will help keep the water cleaner. How many water changes do i need?Monitor the water parameters and do enough water changes to keep the Nitrate level down below about 30ppm.

Exactly how much that is depends on your fish and how much they are eating / pooping.

Eventually you will need to be doing crazy amounts of water changes to keep the water quality up, like 50% twice a week. When that happens it means your fish has outgrown the tank and you need a bigger one.

Edit : Water changes will NOT damage the tanks cycle. The bacteria live on the solid surfaces in the filter and tank, not in the water. You can change 50% every day and the tank will stay cycled. How many water changes do i need?It takes roughly a year for an Oscar to reach 12%26quot; and they do like to cr@p.

Minimum tank size for an adult is 40UK gallon. It won't be 8%26quot; for very long, but two 20%/week should keep the ammonia down at that size. Don't be fooled into thinking you can keep a full grown Oscar in 30UK gallon. It won't live long and it won't be happy.

Edit: The reason I would not take more than 20% from an Oscars tank is they do spit the dummy out if you upset their home too much:o)How many water changes do i need?every 2 weeks is fine. If you have a tester kit you could always check to see that the nitrate level doesnt get to high and base your water changes off of that. When ever doing a water change you should change about 25 percent but no more than that. All fish like new water but you must keep the nitrogen cycle running as well.
