100% water change.cycling water and new tank 30l?

right i have got my old tank and filled it will new dechlorinated water. its been stood for 4 days and today I added one baby fantail (just less thank an inch inc tail) ideally i want 2/3 fantails.

i was told to finish cycling the tank 6-8 weeks before adding one more and then if i want to add any more to do it slowely.

thing is i need a bigger tank to accomodate 2-3 fantails so what do i do?? do i really want to cycle this tank and move them straight into a new tank? i know i can transfer the water, the filter and the gravel media but the tank has to cycle again right? if so how to i go about swapping tanks and adding more fish?100% water change.cycling water and new tank 30l?Yes get your new tank. Use the gravel, the water and the filter and put them on your new tank. Your fan tail will be fine in a large pitcher of your water until you get this done.

Let the tank run. Chances are you can put your fish in the tank since he has already been in there. Fill the remainder of your tank with your dechlor water.

I would keep a test kit on hand just to test the water to be sure there are no high spikes. If that happens do a 25% water change. Your tank will quickly cycle this way. I would not add new fish for atleast a week just to be on the safe side.

Good luck100% water change.cycling water and new tank 30l?I Cycle new tanks with a special Liquid calld TANK CYCLE and I add a few goldfish for a few days.100% water change.cycling water and new tank 30l?If you already have a larger tank and all the equipment for it, I would just set it up and transfer everything over. a 30 L tank is only about 8 gallons (for those of us in the US :) and so is definitely way too small for even 1 goldfish since they get large. To accomodate 2-3 goldfish at their adult size you will need at least a 50 gallon tank which works out to about 190L100% water change.cycling water and new tank 30l?If you want three fantails in one tank 200l, 40 UK gallon is about right.

The cheats way, which really isn't cheating as it takes time, though is faster.

When you clean your 30l, you keep the dirty water and filter it into your new tank through a sieve containing synthetic wool. (you get the bacteria, but no lumps of waste). Double what you add each time with dechlorinated water. When you have at least half a tank, top it up with dechlorinated water and you should be cycled in a week with your old filter medium.

Take your time, your baby will be 2-3 inches in a matter of weeks, by the time it gets to 8 weeks, you can add a second, but you have to be getting the new tank ready or you will be running out of room fast.

Edit: As above, keep the water you remove when cleaning the small tank, filter it and put it in the big tank. Size is just how it is, goldfish are dirty animals that need a lot of water.100% water change.cycling water and new tank 30l?When you upgrade tanks you can move the filters, gravel, ornaments all across at the same time.

That way you move most of the cycle bacteria from the small tank into the new one and dont have to cycle it again from scratch.

The new tank wont be fully cycled as it's bigger filter will be new and barren, but that will establish over a few weeks and it will soon be cycled and working properly. Your old filter may not be big enough for the new tank, but at this stage it's not fully stocked so the small filter can handle thinsg.

After a couple of weeks for things to settle then it's OK to add more fish, in stages, as the cycle builds up.
