How to change water in 2.5 gallon tank ?

I have a Mini Bow 2.5 gallon tank with an undergravel filter. Never had an aquarium before, so I need a little help. It has a male betta fish in it, and we just got 2 snails for the tank today. However, I noticed one of the snails had died, and I am thinking that it would be a good idea to just clean the whole tank out, rinsing the plastic plants (as I notice some kind of stuff floating on the leaf edges) along with the gravel. I'm not worried about the betta-- just put it in a container until the water gets regulated enough to put back in. I don't know, how to handle the snail. Do I just put it in the same container as the betta, while the water's getting done? Or would I end up killing it? (I think the betta might have %26quot;bullied%26quot; the other snail too much, because it was nudging it a lot since we brought it home. The next time we looked at it, the snail wasn't moving at all, and was on it's side). Thanks for your input! How to change water in 2.5 gallon tank ?The snail was probably not dead. They will close up in the shell for many reasons, shock, fright, so on.

As far as the tank cleaning goes, just keep half of the water and put the snail and betta in it. Clean your others and refill back to half using the correct water (temp, de-chlorinated, so on).

Bettas are tuff little fish and do fine with a good water change once or twice every few weeks. How to change water in 2.5 gallon tank ?i would get a mini gravel vacuum so all the debris doesnt get caught in the rocks while its going through the filter.

they usually run around $5...

you need a heater as well.

i wouldnt clean to WHOLE thing out, just change about half the water with the gravel vacuum... check it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGU-IQk_x
